NIPSIA and IPSIA presentation of an Achievement Award to Prof. Lotfi A. Zadeh

Dr. Bijan Tadayon, a founding member of NIPSIA, Mr. Mohammad Ghayour, the President of IPSIA, Mr. Shahriar Behnamian, the Vice President of IPSIA, and a few friends, including Dr. Shahriar Khosravani (NIPSIA), Dr. Behnam Salemi (NIPSIA) and Mr. Shahram Davari (NIPSIA), presented an Achievement Award to Prof. Lotfi A. Zadeh in an informal dinner gathering, including Mrs. Zadeh and Prof. Zadeh's assistant, Ms. Ixel Chavez. The gathering was at China Village Restaurant, Albany, California (near University of California, Berkeley). On the following day, Dr. Bijan Tadayon and Mr. Mohammad Ghayour did an interview with Prof. Zadeh at the U.C. Berkeley recording studio, and they presented the interview to the USPTO.

Introductory comments by Mohammad Ghayour representing IPSIA at the informal award presentation to Prof. Lotfi Zadeh, May 8, 2011.
Good evening,
My name is Mohammad Ghayour. I am a Supervisory Patent Examiner and the current president of the Intellectual Property Society of Iranian-Americans at the United State Patent and Trademark Office.
It is a pleasure to be with you tonight and specially, it is a distinct honor to join with you here to pay our tribute to one of the great scientists of our time whose numerous contributions to the science and engineering has made the world a better place to live in.
I must say that it is neither within my qualifications nor the limits of our time here tonight to talk about every contribution that Professor Zadeh has made, but even if Professor Zadeh had only limited his accomplishments to pioneering the Z-transform and the state space control theory with their wide range of applications in automatic control and digital signal processing, he would still have been considered among one of the greatest scientists of our time. Of course, he did not stop there and in 1965 he introduced the world to Fuzzy set theory and Fuzzy logic with its many diverse applications. In the 1990s, Professor Zadeh proposed computational theory of perception, which has opened a new chapter in the world of computational science, artificial intelligence, and neural networks.
Because of those and many other achievements, an appreciating world of science has presented Professor Zadeh with numerous prestigious awards including IEEE medal of honor in 1995 and Benjamin Franklin award in 2009, as well as 23 honorary doctorate degrees from major universities around the world.
Professor Lotfi Zadeh is quoted as saying that his life has been shaped by several different countries. Well, Sir, we are proud that we are the children of one of the countries which has played a major role in shaping your life.
Now, I would like to ask Dr. Bijan Tadayon, founder of MaxValueIP patent firm and a founding member of the National IP Society of Iranian-Americans to join me in presenting this recognition award on behalf of Intellectual Property Society of Iranian-Americans at the United State Patent and Trademark Office (IPSIA) and National Intellectual Property Society of Iranian-Americans (NIPSIA) to Professor Zadeh.
